My English friend give me the recipe and show me the technique how to make this tender and buttery crust. It is equally good for sweet and savory tart or pie.
1 1/2 cup all purpose flour
1/2 cup unsalted butter
2 tbs solid vegetable shortening
a pinch of salt
1/4 cup ice cold water
- Put all ingredients, except ice cold water in a medium size bowl.
- Using your fingertips, rub the butter and shortening into the flour until the mixture resemble coarse crumbs
- Sprinkle ice water a tablespoon at a time, mix using a dinner knife until they begin to stick together
- Gather the dough and form into a disc, wrap with plastic then let rest in the fridge for 2 hours
